War Eagles Reclassification 2015 Football Schedule

The Athletic Department of Wayne County High School has released the 2015 War Eagle football schedule.This is a reclassification year. The upcoming year will bring about several schedule changes.

 The non-division schedule consists of a very challenging slate of games.The War Eagles will open the season with a trip to Vicksburg to take on Warren Central High School in the Red Carpet Bowl on August 21. Oak Grove, a 6A opponent, will follow on August 28. The home opener with Meridian High School will take place on September 4th. After an open date on September 11, the War Eagles will host Louisiana 5A power, Archbishop Rummel High School of Metairie, LA.

The War Eagles’ division schedule does not get much easier.The reclassification adds two trips to Jackson and includes the addition of Jackson Provine and the loss of Pearl River Central HS. Wayne County will make the first trip to Jackson on September 25 to take on Wingfield High School.  The War Eagles will host Brookhaven on October 2.The following week, October 9, the War Eagles will travel to Soso, MS, to take on West Jones High School.The Eagles host Natchez on October 16 followed by another trip to Jackson on October 23 to play Jackson Provine. The War Eagles will finish the regular season hosting South Jones on October 30 and traveling to Laurel on November 6.

All games are scheduled to kickoff at 7:00 p.m.

Student and Employee ID Cards and Lanyards

Dear Parents or Guardians,

     Beginning this week, student and employee ID Cards and lanyards will be issued and worn according to the following schedule:

Beat Four and Clara- Thursday, December 11

WES and WMS- Friday, December 12

WCHS and Buckatunna- Monday, December 15

     The purpose of the ID Card is to identify a person who is a student or employee of the Wayne County School District and to exclude those individuals who have no legitimate business on the grounds of the Wayne County Schools during school hours, including being on school district transportation.  The ID Cards will help to enhance security on all our school campuses.

McDonalds Golden Apple Teacher and Student

The 2nd nine weeks Golden Apple teacher is Mrs. Lauren Leggett.  Stalexius Davis has been choosen as McDonalds Golden Student for the 2nd nine weeks.

WCHS sophomore Ariel Williams submits top essay

Wayne County High School sophomore Ariel Williams will be recognized by the Mississippi Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Chickasawhay Chapter, for her award-winning essay. Ariel’s narrative essay – a fictional account the historic voyage of Christopher Columbus – won first place in the local DAR contest and will be submitted for entry in the state competition. Ariel has been invited to read her essay to DAR members at their Feb. 18 meeting.

Wayne County High School Senior Maeleah Smith signed with Jackson State University on November 19, 2014.  

Math League Triumphs

Congratulate the Math League on finishing in the 3rd Round of math competition. They fought hard and beat old rival: South Jones in Sudden Death. WC earned a $1000 to be divided among the players.

McDonald's Golden Apple Award

Each 9 weeks teachers in each grade level nominate students for the McDonald’s Golden Apple Award. Teachers are given a criterion upon which to base their selections on. The students are selected from the names given in grades 9-12.

Also from this list of names, the high school will be recognizing one student per grade.
