Hi, everyone! I am Mia Ivy, one of the 9th grade English teachers. I am going to tell you a little bit about myself and what to expect this month in my class.

I am happily married and have two small children. This is my first year teaching; I graduated from Northeast Lauderdale High School in Meridian in 2011. This past May, I graduated from Mississippi State University with my Bachelor's Degree. I have a strong love for my job, and reading is my passion.  This school year, I hope to instill the same passion for reading in my students as I have for it. We will do a lot of reading and writing in my class. Reading comprehension and writing are major skills that students need to be successful in their future careers. We will have several in-class and out-of-class essays. Students are to EXPECT some type of homework and/or studying each night. This school year may be a little challenging for students; however, I expect ALL of my students to be successful and become better readers and writers. I am almost always available to stay after school for tutoring and/or make-up work.

If you ever have any questions/concerns, please feel free to email me at ivym@wcsdms.com or call the school and leave a message.

I look forward to having your child this year in my class.
