A graduate of Clara High School, I attended Jones County Junior College where I received an Associate of Arts degree. I then enrolled in the University of Southern Mississippi where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. At Jones, I was editor of the Radionian. I also served as editor of the Student Printz at USM.
Following graduation from USM I began working at The Wayne County News as a reporter/photographer. For the next several years I continued to work at the News office until I attained the editor title. In 1991, I switched career paths when I followed the alternative route to achieve my teacher certification. Since that time I have worked as the teacher of the gifted at Waynesboro Middle School. I returned to school to earn my Master's Degree in education.
I married Keith Wells in 1983, and we have one daughter, Stacey Danielle. She graduated from Wayne County High School in 2007 and recently graduated from the USM College of Nursing. She married Jake Reid on June 30, 2013.
