Focus of Lesson

Students will find definitions to algebra vocabulary and write the rules for order of operations and for signed numbers.

Introduction of Lesson

 

Class will discuss the importance of knowing the vocabulary and rules for algebraic operations in order to be able to understand and solve algebraic problems.

(3-5 minutes)

Timed multiplication practice

Learning Tasks/Activities

Students will read and write definitions to basic algebra vocabulary words.

Students will recite the order of operations then use the rules to practice using the order of operations to solve mathematical sentence problems.

Closure

Class will check their work for accuracy as the teacher says the correct answer.

Integer Addition and Subtraction

Focus of Lesson

Use order of operations to solve mathematical problems.

Use rules for signed numbers to add and subtract integers.

Review order of operations

Review rules for adding and subtracting integers

Practice adding and subtracting integers

Class will play “Walk the Plank” to practice adding and subtracting integers. Student will solve 10 integer problems with adding and subtracting.
