  • The teacher will introduce the short stories “One Thousand Dollars” and “By the Waters of Babylon” using Pearson Successnet.com and literature books.
  • The student will complete selected pages in their All In One Workbooks.
  • The teacher will introduce a lesson in the MS Test Prep Workbook and questions from Practice Test 3 from the MDE website in preparation for the Subject Area Test.

Tuesday, October 29, 2013

  • The teacher will continue modeling and instructing how to compare and respond to the effect of the point of view used in the short stories.
  • Students will answer Socratic questions relating to the stories.
  • The teacher will introduce a Lesson in the MS Test Prep Workbook and questions from Practice Test 3 from the MDE website in preparation for the Subject Area Test.

  • The students will complete the Weekly Test for Comparing Literary Works.
  • The teacher will introduce a Lesson in the MS Test Prep Workbook and questions from Practice Test 3 from the MDE website in preparation for the Subject Area Test.

 

Friday, November 1, 2013

  • The teacher will introduce the short story “How Much Land Does a Man Need?” by Leo Tolstoy using Pearson Successnet.com and Literature books.
  • The student will complete activities associated with the story including the Anticipation Guide and Vocabulary/Reading Warm Up sheets.
  • The teacher will introduce a lesson in the MS Test Prep Workbook and questions from Practice Test 3 from the MDE website in preparation for the Subject Area Test.

 

Enrichment Activities will include a discussion of how the story “One Thousand Dollars” would be different if written in first person. Students will then choose one episode from the story and write the selected episode in first person point of view.

Remediation Activities will include completing the Reading Skill Graphic Organizer A  and/or the Literary Analysis Graphic Organizer A to reinforce the reading and literary skills. This activity can be completed using cooperative learning groups.
